Shooting buddy

Finally have a shooting buddy, talked the wife into going to the range with me. I put this rifle together for her in the 90s, she shot it a few times and it went into the back of the safe. The problem is, she is a small woman and the rifle is too heavy. She will be shooting from the bench. The action is a Stevens DST 044 1/2, Douglas barrel installed and chambered for 28-30-120 by Paul at CPA. I couldn’t find a semi inletted stock for a 044 1/2 so Paul sold me a damaged 44 1/2 stock for little or nothing. Got everything ready to go,it will be fun.

Did she start lifting weights or?  If she couldn't handle the weight before, what has changed?

As you can see it is an offhand rifle, she could not hold it an offhand manner, so she will shoot it from the bench. That’s a start, who knows she might try offhand again. She is a better pistol shot than I am.

Beautiful Rifle and it will be fun for Her to go out and to shoot. You are very Lucky fellow by having a Wife who also enjoys doing the same as yourself.

Unless you are going for traditional it would help her a good deal to make some (not permanent) modifications.  Replace prongs with a strip of rubber,  replace forend with a 3" wide BR one.
If recoil is a factor a # + of lead in the butt helps a lot. Once you put it on a rest for her it only goes back and forth.  Weight is your friend.   Good luck       andy

Stuck 11gr IMR4227 in some brass, took some 132gr Barnett bullets lubed about 10 years ago, a make shift rest. I showed her how to breach seat and help her get the scope dialed in, then just let her shoot. Not bad for a girl who really has little experience. She shot 100 yards today and enjoyed it. She already is talking about 200 yards. Guess I will need to whittle out a wide flat forend and get a decent front rest. Here are her targets sorry I didn’t keep mine.

Get ready, I think you're going to show her the way and then she's going to school you... Grin Grin Grin
