Stevens 44 in 32-?? too late for 40

I messaged the seller and they said the serial numbers matched on barrel and frame.
It's obviously a later model than what 32-40 was available in the 44. The picture of the caliber marking almost looks like the third digit is a 2 that was stamped too high.

What do you think?

Looks factory to me. What is the serial number range? Does it have the lugged hammer?

6 o'clock extractor is too late for a 32-40. Or so I thought.

It's a "4". Look at the pic of the open breech and it's way too big to be a .32-20 chamber also.

Leave this one alone!  I saw it first!

Almost all of the .32-40s I have logged have the 6:00 extractor, starting with 17215 (just after the 6:00 extractor appears) and running up to about s/n 31000.   They obviously were selling a LOT of Model 44s in all calibers during that short timespan.

All of those have the lugged hammer, too.   The gun on GB has it - I already emailed the seller.

I've seen a number of others that have the dot in the barrel marking in lieu of a hyphen.

I was wrong! Thought only 7 o'clock extractor 44s were in 32-40 and 38-55.
