Looking for a .50 caliber flintlock rifle or a rifle kit.
Something reasonable priced.

If you want a decent flintlock at a pretty reasonable price take a look at the lyman great plains rifle.  Comes in flintlock and for SINGLE SHOT roundball.  Have a look at Track of the Wolf.   I think they have several used ones on their list right now.

Isn't this a single shot forum??   Can't be much more single shot than flintlock.

Hi George,

I can only find antique used guns on Track of the Wolf. How can I find used guns on their web site?

Thanks,
Orin

Kibler's stuff looks pretty amazing.  He has a series of instructional videos on YouTube on how to build his kits.  And that strikes me as great customer service.

I've got a TC Hawken flinter with a Sharon barrel in 1 in 60 twist and sporting a
Vernier tang sight with an extra frizzen that I would let go for $500 plus shipping.  Got a beautiful stock on it.

I see 6 flintlock Lyman rifles on Track of the Wolf site, but  they are all new and out of stock.   Oh well.   Try GunBroker too.  quite a  lot of flintlocks though many sellers think anything with a big hammer is a flintlock.

I'm thinking of buying this kit:

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

What do you folks think of Jim Kibler's kits?

Sounds like a really good Hawken and I also have a TC Hawken but it's percussion.

I think I'm going to get a Kibler kit like I said above

I think Kiblers kits are about as foolproof as you can make one. All the scarry stuff is pretty much done you just need to finish and assemble not to mention what he charges for high grade maple is very reasonable. I'd love to build one of his southern mountain kits in .32 or .36 caliber but I want the percussion lock of a later era rifle and he's not doing percussion yet. Watch some of his youtube stuff and it will help you decide.

Having built a dozen longrifles, all from blanks, I can tell you Jim’s kits are pretty much just assemble and finish.  I know the quality of Jim’s custom builds before he started the business and he is top notch.  If you want a rifle with the proper architecture, have the ability and can spend the money buy his kit, I doubt you will regret it.
If you go over to the americanlongrifle site, you will find dozens of people that have assembled them.  Jim also frequents the site.
