Invisable barrel liner seam

Can some one explain to me in machinist's language/terms the technique used to truly hide the joint line at the muzzle. Does one leave a feather edge by not allowing the liner drill to totally emerge from the hole, and does that angle get put on end of liner? I have done several over the years by the usual method of just drilling full length and closely matching drill to liner diameter, but it is still visible, but not terribly so.
thanks

You've ask a question I have puzzled.
At the muzzle , not drilling through but staying about .5 short and then reaming or Boring to liner O.D.  Might be a bit of a challenge to get the liner in.  Soldering or glueing may make a difference.  Details, details, details...

One could peen it over into the original metal both prior to the chambering and crowning process prior too. A bit hard for me to explain but I have done the same for some of my own misc. projects to make the seam go away but it is also just by looking at it by ones own eyes.

I have done exactly 2 (two!) relines of .22 barrels and have used the method explained to me that was used by the late and greatly missed Doug Knoell. This means that I am a complete novice!  Using a ball bearing or a small ball peen hammer, place it on the muzzle after the barrel is bored out and strike it gently.  Check the fit with a piece of the liner and repeat until it's a tight fit.  I installed the liner from the breech and have had to use a block of wood to force the liner through the the muzzle.  Turn off the excess and use coarse grit paper to blend with the barrel.  I have been pleased with the way that they (all both) have turned out.

Regards,
Joe

Joe the judicious use of a ball bearing sounds like a improved version of me gently tapping and swaging barrel mat'l with a round end pin punch and then facing the muzzle. Still seems possible to match drill flute angle to liner chamfer that has same angle.....except for the resultant "feather edge" that would result.

I install more than a few liners. I have one hammer set aside for doing the muzzle. It has a slight curve to the face and polished smooth, weighs about 4 ounce. Holding the barrel in one hand and and tapping with the hammer  around the bore will shrink the bore so there is a metal to metal fit. You don't want to get carried away when tapping or the liner can be deformed and then the gun will not shoot strait. The muzzle is then cleaned up in the lathe. If you want to hide it at the chamber end, leave the liner sticking out about 1/16" and peen it to flare it out ( after the Loctite has set). Then you will need to clean up the bore to get a chamber reamer in. I usually don't hide it at the chamber end.

John Taylor has a refined approach I will try on next job. On some restoration work I have put emery paper/cloth over the muzzle and gently tapped the back side to mat the muzzle surface to mimic the worn outside barrel finish.
thanks for the info
