Remington #7 stock pattern
Jul 6th, 2021 at 1:56pm
Print Post
A friend and fellow gunsmith has a client that wants to have a stock made for a Remington #7 rolling block. Being such a rare item and unique design he was wanting to have a stock pre-turned if there is someone that has a pattern for an original #7 buttstock. Making one from the square would be a time consuming and expensive alternative. Any assistance is appreciated.

You might contact Crossno Gun Stocks, Dave made me a #7 blank years ago and they may still have a pattern.

Can’t help with a name but can attest to the time consuming part since I am just finishing one from a blank! Cheesy

I appreciate all the suggestions and will pass them along. A #7 certainly is a unique rifle, I admire anyone that has taken the time to build one. At the Quigley Match I noticed that Rodney Storey has the casting kits and contemplated purchasing one.

The one I'm working on did start as Rodney's casting.
Here is where I'm at on it.  One coat of finish shown here.

Bob’s,
That’s a great looking #7, Just from memory from an original it looks like the stock is thicker and less prone to break in the wrist area. I think yours flows much better.

Bob,  Beautiful work on a very difficult stock pattern.
Just look at the quality of the inletting in the close-up picture. Nice.

bluesman...go for it!

Crown...Might be, but the hole gun is very small so that just might make it appear that way.  The grip is is around the width of the the frame, 1 inch, but never measured it so not positive, I do everything by what looks right to me.  The nose of the comb is slightly thicker than an original just because I didn't like the sharp point I see on them.

Thanks Chuck, but I was hoping you would notice the metal checkering! Grin  Slowly getting better at it!

I plan to start a thread on this gun when it is done.

Bob, Guess when your metal checkering gets to the point where you don't even notice it, it is done very well.
