Looking for Scope Base Options - 1885 Miroku/Winny

I've been chasing around different base/ring options for a 1885 Miroku/Winchester Low Wall and was wondering what you guys use.  Right now I have a Leupold base and rings for the Refdield 3200 I intend to use as my primary scope.  However, I would like the option of removing it at times and also using somethink like a fixed 4 or 6 power.  The Leupold/Redfield base allows you to change out scopes but I have never heard of anyone attempting to use the system like you would with a Fecker or Unertl.  Nor have I ever thought about using it as such before.  This maybe a stupid question, but has anyone ever tried this and, if so, what did you find out?  And I do realize that the zero would be affected if used in this manner.  But the question is how much would it be affected?  Thanks

I used a 3\8" dovetail base (made by machinist) on the barrel to use a Scope with Quick Release Warne rings for modern scopes or switch to Anschutz iron sights.
Allows you to put a step to move back over the action to have better depth of view with your scope.

Zero is always perfect when I take them on and off.

If you do not like a full length dovetail base you can use Unertl bases spaced at 7.2 inches for modern scopes or 10.3" for some external scopes; but you have to lean too far forward to get depth of view to focus with many scopes.

Thanks!

Here's a link to an article on one of Steve Erale's products I found while lurking on the web late last night:

I'm tempted to give it a try

It is the same approach as I use but with steel instead of aluminum and with a lower base.

I prefer my higher base so I look straight forward when shooting offhand without bending my neck (which does not give you consistent point of aim).

Hunters are used to bending their neck to look through scopes but competitive Schuetzen shooters understand the improved accuracy of always having your head fully erect resulting in the same point of aim between shots - plus loosening muscle tension from a bent neck which also affects accuracy.

Also it is longer to use external scopes whereas mine is shortened to use modern scopes such as your Redfield 3200.

I think I’m going to give Steve’s rail a try.
