Help Decipher Another Barrel Blank

I have this barrel blank. I haven't checked the rate-of-twist but assume it is 1-in-16. Anyone have a guess as to the maker? I see a " (XX) " which  thought could be Douglas?

The groove diameter is 0.35" ... assume .38 Special? This barrel blank is 29-1/2" long which (to me) indicates it was meant for a rifle. Any other calibers this could have been used for? The bore is perfect.

Since the muzzle is stamped "38 SP", I'd say your assumption that the barrel was intended for the .38 Special is valid.

Very often handgun barrel blanks are ordered long to maximize use.

I concur, it's Douglas 38 Special with a 16" twist.

It wasn't a Douglas, but years ago, I took a similar blank and carefully turned it to a moderate slip fit in a Maynard .64 shotgun barrel I had. I bonded it in place with Accraglass, then turned a "D-bit" reamer for a close approximation of the .35-40 Maynard cartridge, but based on the .30-30 case head.

After cutting in an extractor slot, fabricating an extractor and adding the drive key to the existing link, I had my first Maynard rifle. It has been great fun to shoot from the start, but now, with a good Accurate mold that fits bore and fired cases well, it shoots pretty darn good too!

Have a Douglas 38 special barrel blank with the double XX and is a 1x14 twist. Think it at least 1.250 in diameter. The double XX's stamped on your blank match mine. Frank
