NYS Rolling Block question

Dumb but happy as usual, I was looking at Rolling Block Parts website and saw that the NYS Rolling Block trigger seems to be different then that of a #1.  My question is do they still have the trigger return spring and will the wire spring replacement interchange to give an almost instant improvement to the trigger pull?  I am trying to figure out whether to rebarrel my #5 to 50-70 or purchase an original and the NYS Model is most common.  Tom

Tom, I think the standard spring will work.  The second sear on the trigger turns independently of the primary trigger sear, and really doesn't need a spring as far as I can tell.   I didn't experiment with it exhaustively though, to see if it's needed for some operation I didn't comprehend.

I made a special spring that operates both sears on a NY Contract a few weeks ago for George Babits, you can ask him how well it works.

Here's the link to the discussion:  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

The NY contract action has a special sear that drops the hammer to half cock when the breech block is closed.  Because of that, it needs a split trigger, so when the closing block trips one sear, the other catches the half cock notch.

If a standard spring doesn't work, I can make you up one of the special ones.

Tom and Dave,

It works great!!!  Really got the trigger pull down to managable.  If I remember right, the little spring Dave made for me bears on both the safetuy sear and the trigger.   Whatever, it definately did the trick on my NY carbine.

Thanks Dave.

George

Wire springs did not work properly on my NYS Rolling Block or the Springfield Rolling Block which have the split triggers.
Wire springs reduced pull but had trigger travel from using them.  So I made replacement trigger springs from hacksaw blades - which resulted in immediate release without travel.

Middle one is the original beside replacements made from hacksaw blades before I did final grinding to final size.
1. anneal 2. drill hole, bend and rough cut out. 3. grind to final size. 4. heat and quench in oil.
