32-40 Case shape

Fellow sent me a barrel to deepen the existing chamber.  No stamping on the barrel as to what it was.  My reamer cleaned up and deepened the chamber.  But....  His sample cases are a straight taper from mouth to base.  My reamer cut a neck.  So I can't figure out or find any information about a "Straight" 32-40 Chamber.  Helpful advise appreciate.  Or a good joke is also accepted.  Thanks. I have an old Ballard with a chamber like that. The barrel is a Stevens-Pope. I have been led to believe it was done to reduce the occurrence of the case separating when using black powder and breech or muzzle seating the bullet. Kind of complicates loading fixed ammo. I will follow this thread with interest to see what others say.

If you were just deepening the chamber, what "neck" you cut would be pretty short.

Thanks for the link😃.  Sure answered a lot of questions.  The chamber, when I got the barrel was a short version of a 32-40.  No Stampings on the barrel to say what it was.  I'll try to post a picture of the Chamber Cast, before and after.
Much appreciate all the help.  David

Barry Darr used a straight tapered 32-40 chambering reamer and I too have one in my safe that I have also used.
It is designed tor breech seating competitive use and the reamer I have was also designed by Barry himself.
