What scope do I have and does anyone make blocks?

I believe it is an repro of an A5? The blocks for the mounts are much wider then regular.

It's brass with a thin or very worn coat of black paint/stain. Seems to work fine, glass is good.

Only markings are X8 and 200-50 ft on the objective.

Does anyone make A5 reproduction blocks? I know I can change the mounts but these seem to be nice and work well.

Thanks. Smiley

If you google Winchester A5 8X some references with scopes just like this pop up. My google-foo is usually strong but I can't find reference to this thing
except in passing. I am fairly sure I could make some mounts but as with most things if someone already makes them it's usually cheaper to buy depending on how you value your time.
Here are some images of the front mount. Looks like the blocks need to be .5" wide.

That is not an A5, it's an Winchester 8x, and they were often found on Winchester 75 and other bolt action rifles. The rings and bases were larger than the A5 and B5 size, and only those rings will fit the special wider bases.
I'd not change rings and bases myself, as these are appropriate for the scope, and work fine. If you don't have bases I believe Steve Earl Products sells replacement bases for the 8x scopes.
The finish on these is always a greenish tint. Not sure what Winchester used but it makes these scopes easy to sot as they all had the same color to the tubes.

I checked Earls page and there is no specific listing for blocks... I will email him and ask.

Thanks, I plan on using it on a 22BPCR rifle.

I hope this link works.  Not much but some info on these scopes starts at reply 109.  X8 scope on my rifle with pictures.

FWIW Mr. Earle is a no go. He doesn't make them. Looks like I'll probably just use mounts that use standard blocks. Too bad.

Do those blocks use the same dimple as the B5?  If so then maybe Montana Vintage Arms can make a larger set for you?

I don't have any scope blocks.... that is the problem... looks like the screw goes over the scope block or maybe in a recess like a weaver/picatinny mount.

A good local machine shop should be able to make blocks easily.  Another option may be to modify Weaver blocks although I do not know if the dimensions are close.

I'm surprised that Steve Earle is not willing to make a set of custom blocks if you send him one of the mounts for dimensions.  He must have his hands full filling current orders.

BTW, I bet the scope mounts were made to fit standard grooves cut in the top of frames of .22 rifles.

That is what they look like...

I'll probably make some myself...

$50 bucks or so I'd just buy them....

$180, not so much. Smiley I was hoping someone knew someone that had them for sale so I didn't have to trial and error them.

If you can get the block dimensions I'd at least give MVA a call and see if they are willing to make them for you.

I have two of these scopes, and the bases for them also. No extras though. The cross screw that clamps them to the base doesn't intersect the base. It simply lays on top of the base closely as it's tightened.
Used to see the bases occasionally at gun shows in junk boxes, but never bought them since I had some. I did have the late Whitey Hanson make me a pair years ago for a friend who needed bases. He just milled them from mild steel, and then we drilled and recessed them to fit my friend's hole spacing.
He also made me a pair with 3/8" dovetail bases so I could use a pair of 8X rings on an old full length scope on my Hepburn. Had to do a minor file work to fit into my dovetails, but they work great. Also mild steel.
