Inletting Marking Compound

Been fitting a Butstock using my old standard Lamp Black and Vasoline but because the Walnut has dark streaks I had a difficult time.  So I mixed up a batch consisting of Linseed Oil and Titanium Dioxide. Made the marks easy to see and I figure that any Linseed Oil that soaked in won't hurt the wood.

Lipstick diluted with penatrating oil can be used if you need a different color.

Yeah, and you will be surprised at how expensive even the cheapest stuff is at the cosmetics counter.

Soy bean base black ink from our local newpaper printer mixed with Vaseline is working great. Very black.

Just cannot go wrong using this:
Kokopelli Jerrow's Inletting Black 1/2 oz
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

a little goes a long way!

Jerrow's also makes a gold colored one which works well in the instances you are working on a dark colored stick.

??? That's what's fun about being a grumpy old man, just go to the cosmetic counter and ask for some. Grin

Inletting black on english walnut.  I use a small foam brush to apply to larger surfaces, q-tip on smaller. Less messy if used lightly.  I've tried many other things but this seems to work best for me.

Bob, Thanks for the picture.  Got me thinking that I didn't have enough Lamp Black mixed in with the Vasoline.  So dumped in more till it was getting hard to stir, what a difference 😃 David
