Stock Makers for Stevens 044 1/2

I know CPA makes stocks and Gail tl me they could fit any of their patters for Steven to the 044 1/2 action, but are there any other stock makers out there who do stocks for Stevens too.  I came across a Varner "Ideal" and I really like the lines of the stock.  I would like to keep the 044 1/2 I have in tune with something that would work for a sporter as well as for casual bench shooting.  Thanks

Pardon me, looks like I may have given GI some free advertising but I think it's been sitting there for a while now.  And it's not mine.

CPA has at least two (2) Stevens stocks that look very much like one in the pictures.

Whoever did the checkering on those stocks either went blind or hit the bottle before that left side forestock pattern was done. Seems that would be hard to do, but they done it. Maybe it's the angle the picture was taken at?

Its more the shape of the stocks than the checkering that's caught my eye.  I especially like the shape of the forearm as the traditional forearms always looked a little deflated or lacking to me.  This one might be a little fat and might benefit from a little thinning.  I also like the shape of the wrist going up to and including the comb.  Maybe some flutes, or not.  I'm just spit ballin' here.

Think that is a shadow hiding part of the work. That is about the shortest forearm I've seen. Thought my 8 1/2 inch forearm was short. That one must only be 6", or so.

Go to GI and you can see more and better pictures.  These are screen shots.

It's good. Was the angle or shadow in that one picture.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

One side of the checkering appears to not be parallel to the top edge of the forearm?
I personally think the forearm looks odd. Sort of over inflated, and not one I'd want on a gun. Slim classic forearms match my preference better.

Yeah, I agree with you on the forearm.  However I would keep the basic shape and thin the beavertail down a little bit.  I am a fan of the flutes on the forearm on this and just about any Stevens forearm.  I'm also a sucker for an ebony insert.

When I compare with CPA stocks the comb height seems much lower on theirs.  I guess I could ask for more wood to be left on the comb and wrist for shaping to my taste.
