I've used Oxphoblue for decades, and it's about as good as, and better than most others.

I’ve used Oxphoblue for at least 15 years. The best I’ve found for cold blue so far.

I second ( or third or fourth) OXPHO-Blue.  I also use a Birchwood Casey Presto touch-up pen for small areas or feathering edges.

Another vote for Oxpho Blue, but Brownell's is out.  I tried to order some today and was told they will not have more until the end of March.

There is some listed on Ebay and Amazon.  You'll have to decide how bad you need it.

My own experience is that you can't beat Oxpho blue for antique and other "soft" steels and wrought iron.  But for modern/"hard" steels, I prefer Dicropan T-4, another exclusive Brownell product.

Thanks all for the replies.  I bit the bullet and ordered Oxophro from Amazon.  Paid the $10 premium but no shipping charge.  All comes out in the wash.

I used so many tiny bottles of Oxphoblue decades ago that I gave up, and ordered a gallon. I've been working off the same gallon jug for probably 30 years now. It stays under my bench in a cool dark place, and has over 1/2 gal. left and still works great. Seemed high priced back then, but considering what little bottles cost it's been a bargain.

Very interesting Bill I have never had much success with the Dicropan T-4.

I'm not surprised, John.  My experience is that Dicropan only works well on harder steels and some of the more modern steel alloys (which, perhaps not surprisingly, are the same steels that in my experience Oxpho seems to not color so easily or so permanently).  My bet is Brownell's created the two solutions to make as many of their clients happy as possible.

Good to know, thank you. I’ll have to buy some dicropan T4 to have on hand.
