Beautiful rifle AZshot! They apparently weren’t skimpy in the stock department.

Years ago I was located in Northern Ontario and we were going to Texas to pick up some equipment , called the Mowery factory and asked if we could get a nickels tour of the factory .
Well they rolled out the sunday carpet for us Very interesting , their main business was making equipment for the oilfields. Tw
o rifles followed us home , one of which I still have , I got to pick of the wood and parts I wanted for the rifles They sure had a lot of tiger stripe maple for stock wood
Good people and good memories

Yeah, when I bought mine in the early 90s they were like $260 ordered new.  Or you could add $20 for extra fancy curly maple, which I did.  They were a very good value.

I agree with Chuckster. I worked on several of these many years ago and the lock work was crap. They seemed to shoot OK though when they worked.

I agree. I bought one late '70's, cosmetics were fine, but sent it back because mechanics were atrocious.

There are if I recall 2 moving parts.  The hammer and trigger.  You can open the sideplate to look at the action with 2 screws.  The hammer is attached to the mainspring with a loop.  The trigger is adjustable for a very light letoff. It's about as complicated as a letter opener.  Not sure how the "mechanics" can be bad, but the design is elegant.  The trigger, pins, and hammer were decent steel in mine.  Not much to break, and mine never has, but I've only had it 30 years or so.

Update: just found a pic, haven't had mine open in 20 years and didn't want to take it down and spend the 2 minutes to open it.

They are very simple.  But, I think what Chuck is saying about the lock is that there is no bridle around the tumbler, and where the steel tumbler shaft goes through the frame to the hammer the brass/bronze frame wears out.  Had a friend bring his to my shop last year that was in real bad shape from this.  If I remember correctly if you bumped the hammer sometimes it fired, it is a wall hanger now.

Back in the early 1970's I went into a local hardware store looking for a T/C Seneca and this store had a bunch of Mowrys from heavy barrel target rifles with some kind of peep sight and what looked to be a Lyman #17 front sight. He had a short barrel rifle I believed it was called a Coach gun and even had some DIY kits. The fit and finish looked well worth the price.i wound up buying the the Seneca for a few $$ more. Thanks for your post, it brought back some good memories. Maybe ASSRA should ressurect a BP percussion match, seeing as that's how Scheutzen matches got started.

To me it looks like it needs a tumbler axle shaft installed, and then drill through the side plate for support. Reminiscent of a Smith carbine arrangement. Simple elegance.

I'd have though that a bushing for the tumbler shaft on the action's hammer side would've at least minimized if not solved the wear problem.

I have put a steel bushing in the brass frame on a few of them to fix the problem, works great.
