Nice collection of pistols Terry! These pistols (and revolvers) are not common. I found many of the gunmakers used the Stevens tip-up pistols (in some cases, Belgian copies) and Remington Rolling Blocks as their platform for their precision barrels.

Love, love, love the Smith & Wesson pistol on the top!

Here is the Pope S & W in its case including a gold medal from the 1908 (London) Olympics like the one the original owner earned.

Holy cow Terry! Those are all wonderful! As a fan of early S&W pistols, I love all of them, but the cased pistol makes me weak in the knees!

My take on the cased S&W is "Lawd, lawd, what some of you people do find!"

Coming up on auction.    (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

General George Patton was on the 1912 team. His diverse interest and training in sports made him a natural for the Olympic modern pentathlon—which comprises fencing (one-touch épée), 200 meter freestyle swimming, equestrian show jumping, pistol shooting and a 3,200 meter cross country run. At the age of twenty-six, Lieutenant Patton competed in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, the year the modern pentathlon was introduced. Of forty-two competitors he finished in fifth place, and might have earned a medal had it not been for a controversy in the pistol-shooting event. The judges ruled that Patton completely missed the target with one of his shots, while he argued he was so fine a marksman that one of the bullets went through an existing hole. Despite his failure to earn a place on the podium it was a remarkable showing as he had little training as a swimmer and his Olympic preparation was really only his military training at West Point!

I own Michael Petrov's S&W 22/32 revolver, with the A O Niedner Malden, Mass. stamp on the lower front left frame.
