Hybrid barrel

Ok, not what you are thinking probably!

I am considering rebarreling either a formerly military roller or a peabody with an outside hammer to 22RF. Both are currently in original configuration and RF.

Is there someone putting 22RF liners into bigger diameter aluminum sleeves, either round or octagon?

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

Another alternative I've seen is using an old damascus shotgun barrel. They look beautiful and I've only seen them in pictures.

How is this an alternative? I am looking for a large, outside dimension with low weight.

For light weight, there are composite barrels out there,
as in carbon fiber, etc

Good thing to know is what caliber of RF they are presently in.  As SS mentioned there where people that made slip in liners.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Back 30 years ago there was a company called Bullite, who made aluminum bull barrels with a steel .22 liner in them. I shot Bullseye at the time, and had them make me a barrel for my Hi Standard Supermatic competition gun. Their barrels were amazing, but I've not been able to find out what happened to them? I wanted to see if they were around to have them make up a larger diameter aluminum barrel with a liner, but can't find them now.
I can't imagine why any good gunsmith couldn't get the right aluminum round stock and bore it to install a liner and do the same today? Unless boring a straight hole through aluminum is an issue I don't know of?

Just found this company-Whistlepig, who makes aluminum  barrels for rifles like Ruger 10-22 and CZ 455, so maybe they'd make one unfinished at the chamber end? 22" is there longest, so not sure if they'd make a longer barrel? But they do offer them round, fluted, and even octagon!

Shot them a note, we'll see what comes back.

Just had a thought.....

Tensioned liner inside an aluminum tube. Perhaps a thick-walled aluminum tube turned to have a contour....

do a google search for:  airgun TJ Liner Composite

There's a whole group of guys doing exactly what you are talking about, some with more sophistication and better success than others.

The best ones are reaming and straightening aluminum tubing that fits over a TJ liner, tensioning the liner, and then wrapping it in a composite carbon fiber sleeve.

If you are not planning on bench shooting that light barrel could really wave around shot from offhand.
