Mine was 38 Long before it was rebored years ago for 44-40. It was a target rifle for the previous owner so has seen lots of shooting. I am kind to it and use mild SR 4759 loads for 100 meter silhouette matches. SR 4759 has similar pressure curves to BP and my load is several hundred fps less that what a BP load would give. I think one in 32 S&W Long would be a nifty rifle.

O.T. I know but would you believe that somebody on Gunbroker paid $205 for a one-pound can of 4759?   Shocked

The .32 S&W Long is a sweet little rifle cartridge, but a caution: On another forum a guy with pressure-measuring equipment found a commercial loading that generated 18,000 psi.   Bottom line = load your own.

Actually that's a 5 pound can, and at $40/pound I would've probably bid on it had I seen it!

That pressure shouldn't be an issue for a cast action Ballard. It is higher than I'd load mine, but I don't think it's too high for the #2 Ballard.

Since the dimensions of .38 Special are very close to .38 Long, it's a doable idea. Of course you'll always have the concern some idiot will drop a .38 +P cartridge in it sometime in the future.
