At least the one that Frank de Haas described in Single Shot Rifles was marketed by Kettner so it has become the general name for them. Mine was made and marketed by Greifelt (who possibly made most of them for the trade) but without claiming a System name. This French company built a modern rifle on one and called it a Schmidt-Habermann by Greif (Greifelt is the company and Greif is actually their logo/symbol which is a Griffin in English). (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) An Ideal is outwardly similar but slightly different and much different internally. The subject rifle of the post is definitely a Kettner/Greifelt/Schmidt-Haberman what have you and not an Ideal. But, they are ideal rifles, and very strong with a bushed firing pin.

Often called system “Ideal”. I have 2, one is 8.15 x 46r, the other is 6mm Krag. That is the reinforced or strong action, most do not have the thicker side walls thus lack the raised section on the sides of the action. The action came in 2 lengths. I am no expert, just parroting what I have learned from the GCCA.

Here are some more pics. Here's an ad for the "Ideal" and a pic of an Ideal action and one of that action's parts. Finally, a "Kettner" by Greifelt.
