Someone asked me for more info on 8.15x46mm case length as it relates to case mouth ID. I have used RP 30-30 brass, fire-formed it and cut it to length. The specs. for  the 8.15x46 call for a length of 46.50mm or 1.833". At this length the case mouth ID. is .328". At a length of 48.50mm or 1.910 the case mouth ID. is .322". With stop-ring bullets the longer the case the deeper the bullet is pushed into the rifling. Attached is a picture of both of these case lengths and the bullet engraving into the rifling. Please forgive the picture as my camera doesn't like close ups. I have marked the picture with red to show the amount of rifling engagement. I hope this answers more questions than it creates.

P.S. the bullet is by accurate- mold# 32-182L in 1:25

My stop ring mold is the 16H pattern, I got it many years ago from NEI. The stop ring contacts the throat wall before the nose engages the rifling. From the photos your bullet design has a longer bore ride area. Is it an Accurate mold?
Thanks Mike

Hi A.J.  I'm wondering if the longer case make it very hard to seat the round?  Also curious if you tweaked the dimensions of the bands on that bullet mold for your bore of .306 and groove of .317?  I'm thinking of ordering one of those molds and trying to figure out the best dimensions.  I'm looking forward to your results on the target!

Regards,
Joe

I am able to insert the round with my thumb but for the last little bit. The Buchel Meister has enough camming ability to seat the last little bit. If I cast in a harder alloy I think seating would be a lot harder. I  tweaked the dimension of the base bands to .322 (bands below the stop-ring) as that is the mouth ID of the longer case. Depending on your chamber dimensions the stop-ring could also be a little larger but as this round being new to me I didn't want to push the limits too far. I will report what it does on paper as soon as the weather turns a bit milder.

I believe I will order a mold from Accurate molds, as I have not gotten the accuracy With the NEI mold I expected, good but not great.
