Universal Palm Rest

The advertisement below is from a 1902 issue of Shooting and Fishing magazine. Just curious - have any of you ever encountered a Universal Palm Rest as made by Great Western Gun Works?
While a close-in OH position using a knob mounted on the lever was not particularly popular back in the day, Louis Ittel was a notable exception. His name appeared frequently among the winners of matches in that time period.

I have looked at this several times over the years and if using a Pope style finger lever I am not so sure the Ball would not be hitting the forearm keeping the breech block from opening all the way.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I saw one on a schuetzen 1885 once, and not only did it restrict lever travel, the balance point when shouldering the rifle was terrible. Way too far back for me to ever want one.

Louis Ittel 1901. Don't know if he was a giant or "little" but he was a fine rifle shot.

I see another path that would cause me to stray, a few photos of one and I'd be copying it to try...

Thanks for the offer. Please do bring it to Raton and I'll give it a whirl. I think it would make my 14 1/4 pound Ballard No.6 unmanageable but since I'm assured of "Perfect Targets" I'm game. If nothing else, it certainly is an interesting implement of that time period.

For those like Greg who might like to experiment, the cork balls can be bought on eBay (item # 324338210802).

Also, I have an original Great Western catalog from the late 1890's; if I can find it, I'll check to see if it has any other "toys" of interest and, if so, report back.

I've always wanted to try one.  On rifles without a palm rest, I tend to hold them with my thumb on the finger lever, about where this clamps on, and my index and middle fingers on the forend.
If someone makes a run of these, put me on the list!

I have a few original rifles I'd use more if I had a clamp on palm rest.  Put me on the list also.

I am aware of Ittle, was just suggesting that it might be of more use to someone of smaller stature. Not so cramped as might be the case with someone larger, longer arms, longer LOP, etc. It does not appear to have much range of adjustment like so many other palm rest have.

I might add that GT could/probably would incorporate more adaptability.

Would be splendid on my percussion rifles.
