Ruger No.1 Build (Read 3735 times)

	Have all the parts gathered to put together a Ruger No.1 with set trigger (which is very nice at 1.5#). Plan is to cut down the 6.5mm Bartlein barrel to 25" and chamber in 6.5x55 as a hunting rifle for most anything up to elk. However, with such a sweet trigger, it would be a great .22LR "fun gun" for target and general all 'round shooting. Have had good luck with Shilen barrels, so one of their ratchet-rifled rimfire models would be nice. Decisions, decisions.............

	Hard to go wrong with a 6.5x55, hunting or target.

	Indeed. As Deadeye Bly said to me, the 6.5x55 has been bringing home the meat for about 125 years.

	Great project regardless of what it gets built into. My Ruger #1 for my 300 Blackout project is on its way. Can you tell me what brand the set trigger is?

	Problem solved. Found another No.1 CF block, so will have both barrels fitted.

	Personal preference based on: 1. ease of installation 2. wider trigger face 3. while it's a more complicated design, I like the function better (i.e. less change in trigger position between set and unset positions) 4. there are a lot more of them in existence and they can often be had cheaper than the Kepplinger If I were going to get another aftermarket trigger, it would probably be a Jard, just because I haven't tried one yet. They're not a set trigger, but they come in various pull weights.

	Since neither trigger is still being manufactured, and parts not available, it would seem the Jard would be a good choice, and in pull weights down to one pound, more than satifactory, depending on use. Plus the fact that the lock time would be less than the set triggers. For a bench rifle not so important, for offhand possibly more so. for a hunting rifle, one pound is more than adequate. Just one opinion having used, and needed parts for the Canjar. Most parts could be made, but why if not needed. I have many Canjar triggers and they, for the most part, have served me well. The old No1 triggers were adjustable, and I suspect the Jard is similar. But, I am always willing to try something new, as I am running out of the early triggers.

	I see that EAB is selling a No.1 trigger that goes down to 1# for $120 and will install for another $65. Is not a set trigger, but for hunting I doubt that I would set the trigger in any event. I'll do some testing once everything is back together.

	I just looked at the Jard and EABco triggers. They look to be identical. Not sure which came along first. Same price @ $120. The Jard may be available for less on other sites.

	I have several Ruger #1s with either the Canjar or Kepplingeer trigger. Both work well but I agree with another poster that the Canjar is a more consistent better pulling trigger. A little harder to activate but easily overcome. However, if I come upon one I would grab it in a minute.
