Great start to the 2020 season

I was blessed to drop a nice fat 6pt buck this opening morning. Like last year, I was using the Stevens 44 1/2 in 25/35imp. I was just about to squeeze the trigger on a smaller 6pt when this guy came into view behind him. Both were on a lone doe. He was head on, stopped, at 130yds and with bad swirling wind knew something wasn’t just right. I took a centered neck shot and he dropped without a quiver. I keep wishing for a 200 pounder and got pretty close with this one! Heart tonight! With Michigan rules, I now have to wait for an 8pt.

Great job! Looks like a sling for the rifle might be a good addition. Smiley

Being one of my favorite still-hunting rifles, it rarely leaves my hands when hunting......same as my Seneca. They both balance and carry so nice.

I wasn't so lucky this morning, but with the 50,60 mph wind gusts today and tonight I'll probably be able to go out tomorrow morning and find a couple dead with their necks broken from getting blown into a tree.

Well done! Great to see a nice buck taken with a .25/35! How much better is the "Improved" over the standard case & what projectile were you using? I've just started using 100 gr spitzers rather than the 117 gr RN in my original HW and can already see an improvement in accuracy. Still working on a hunting load.

Spud,
100gr Rem SPCL at 2950fps.....a whole new level of performance over the std. cartridge. I am anxious to recover the bullet, it’s still in his swollen neck somewhere.

Great job and a nice buck indeed!  I shoot a 44 1/2 but in the standard 25/35 and killed a nice 25" 4x4 mulie a few years ago.  I really like the 100 grain Nosler BT.  I have used Ballistic Tips, Partitions and the 117 RN to take deer and antelope.  My rifle likes IMR 4895 for the heavier bullets and IMR 3031 with the 100 grain bullets.  As for a sling, mine does not sport one but my Borchardt has a nice barrel mounted swivel that looks nice and in my humble opinion is the way to go.  I have a roller in 38/56 with sling swivels but all of my other single shot rifles do not.  Tom

Tom,
This 10tw barrel and the 100gr. Remington SPCL like 4320. With a higher power scope, while developing loads, I shot 1” clusters all day long. It now sports one of the first Weaver K3’s with post and crosshair. I have that reticle on a dozen rifles. Most are old Redfield 1 3/4x. Wolves moved in last night and deer were jumpy as hell this morning.

I bought a Leupold 3x and a 4x with post reticles a few years ago.  One is on a 38-55 Model 94 and the other is on my 1903 Springfield 35 Whelen.  My 25/35 has a 9 twist barrel 28" long.  I have never tried 4320 but use 4895 and 3031 in many of my single shot rifles.  Tom
