I just missed out buying a 44 1/2 today. Attached pic is of the barrel stamp. Serial number 5914.
What caliber is this ?

I think that's the same as 22 WRF, or Remington called it 22 Remington Special.

Like other gun companies,Stevens didn't want to stamp another manufacturers name on their rifles,even if it was only WRF. Scarce caliber to find...cost an extra $2.00 according to the catalogs.

Good hunting cartridge. Rare in a 44 1/2. Would like to have one. Still looking for a 417 in that that caliber. Have a Favorite and it's marked .22WRF. Seems like they used both markings at different times.
