Fall hunting report with single shots

I began on a cow elk hunt in Colorado with my B78 in 300 H&H using a 180 grain Partition over a moderate charge of 4064.  Shot was broadside at 290 yards.  I heard the impact but she just stood there so I reached in my pocket and reloaded.  This time I was excited so it took me a few seconds to settle down and at the shot she dropped.  Both shots were double lung and about 3" apart.  No pictures as I forgot my phone.  Second hunt was in Wyoming for mule deer using my 7mm Ackley Krag Ruger #3 with #1 wood and trigger.  Shot was at 250 yards from prone using an organic rifle rest of two cow pies to form a bunny bag.  One pie was unstable!  Dropped at the shot.  25" 5x4.  One picture is of my guide where it fell and second picture is me when we got it packed to the top of the hill.  Took two trips as I was worthless on that steep hill.  Then I continued on to hunt antelope in the middle of Wyoming on BLM land.  First day I took this 14" antelope with my Rolling Block in 6mm-30/30 Imp at 240 yards.  That was the first hunt with that rifle.  Tom

Congratulations you now have some very tasty and healthy meat to eat. I miss my days of hunting in Colorado but even more so the fresh liver and onions cooked over an open campfire. I can smell it as I type.

Congratulations Tom, some nice looking critters and good eating. Checked out everything on the 30-40 AI yesterday, should be heading home by the end of the week.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!
