25-20 ss load data?

I have a Stevens 44 1/2 in 25-20 ss,I've tried 8 grains of 4227 with a cast 85 grain bullet, I am having lots of un-burned powder left in the bore, any suggestions for 4227? How about a starting load for 2400 using the same 85 grain cast bullet? The only other possibly suitable powder that I have on hand would be accurate 1680.

I tried that 4227 load too, with similar results.  AA#9 became my go-to powder, but it's hard to find.  2400 is almost identical speed, so try 6.0 grains.

I have been breach seating my 25-20 single shot with A 1-10 twist and a 120 grain bullet and having very good luck with Hodgdon CFE pistol. I'll have to double check the charge but it probably won't help me much being that you're using fixed ammo and a lighter bullet . I have been happy with CFE pistol being very uniform and metering easily. It's a very fine powder and I think burned similar to blue dot in relative  speed which is just a little faster than 296

Dredging up an old thread. Anybody employing AA9 care to comment with loads? Running up a fresh batch of .25-20SS ammo and I would like to try some with AA9. Thanks.

My best was 6.3 grains #9 with the 86 grain bullet, in a model 44 with a reasonably good OEM barrel.

Thanks, Phil. I scored a pound of it and am going to expend it by exploring its use in a Low Wall .25-20SS and HW .32-40's. Plenty of the standby 4227 on hand, just looking to expand my horizons.

I use 6.8 grains of H108 (~ AA9) with the 65 grain 257420 in my 44 Stevens.

I use  8.5g of ADI 2205(don't know what the Hogdon equiv is) for very good results in a Low wall teamed with an 87g moly coated lead projectile. Haven't chrono'd it yet but will do so, also developing loads of 17.5 and 18.0 of 2P  Wano with the same projectile.
