Using 7.62 Nagant brass for .25-20?

I noticed that a company called Ammunition Artifacts is offering both .218 Bee and .25-20 brass made using 7.62 Nagant revolver brass as the base case.

That prompted me to look up the cost of Privi Partizan Nagant brass, and I was able to easily find it at around 50 cents per case, in stock at several retailers.

A comparison of the case dimensions would seem to indicate very close compatibility other than the Nagant having a slightly larger rim and being longer overall. Both of those differences could be easily dealt with.

That being the “case”, has anyone attempted to form .25-20 in this fashion? I realize Starline .32-20 brass is probably the preferred route, but even it is few and far between these days.

Since the poster Otony mentions using the 32-20 case to form the 25wcf case, I would assume that 25wcf is the target case. Hopefully he will respond.

Sorry gentlemen, I should have been more clear. I referenced the .218 Bee and the .32-20, but neglected to specifically say .25-20 WCF.

These are the actual dimensions of the Nagant brass if someone wishes to compare it to .25-20 SS

7.62x38R Nagant

Case type      Rimmed
Bullet diameter      7.91 (.311)
Neck diameter      7.26 mm (0.286 in)
Shoulder diameter      8.38 mm (0.330 in)
Base diameter      8.94 mm (0.352 in)
Rim diameter      9.855 mm (0.3880 in)
Case length      38.86 mm (1.530 in)

It is basically a straight taper case (more or less) that is 1.53” long. Not sure if it will work with the SS .25-20 as parent brass, but it certainly works for .218 Bee and the .25-20 WCF

I’ve used .32-20 to make 7.62 Nagant (not exactly because the case ends up a little short) back before 7.62 Nagant was widely available, so it should be possible to go the other way and make .32-20, .218 Bee, and .25-20 WCF from 7.62 Nagant.  The body diameter on all of them is close enough for government work.

The Nagant are an excellent start for .310 Cadet cases.

A number of years ago I messed around with that brass making 3220 and 2520. I don't remember exactly why I stopped.  but the rims are considerably thinner and I do remember having a few Is light primer strikes. There were other issues I had that I wish it could remember but it was not successful. I don't remember the brand of brass I was using at the time . But that's also when 32 20 was $15 a 100. So I just bought a couple 1000 rounds of Starline 3220 and stopped messing  Around with it. One of the smartest things I ever did
