After being in and out of the single shot world 3 times in 35 years I'm back. Stevens 44 in 28/30 should arrive this week. now I've got to figure out ammunition etc... I know cases are the big issue, I only need 10 or so. I'll keep this updated as I know more about this rifle.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Great looking Stevens 44! Probably one of the toughest calibers to get brass for, but only needing 10 cases should make it less expensive. Maybe contact RMC for lathe turned cases, if they'll do less than 20 in a run.

You might want to consider making a cerrosafe cast of the chamber then send that cast piece to Rocky Mountain Cartridge Co. They will make you a box (20) of cases that precisely fit your chamber. Use 1 case to make a breech seater, the remainder of the box should last you for the rest of your shooting career. I think a box of RCC cases of that size run in the neighborhood of $60 but you can get an exact price on their website.
Good luck and please let us know how it shoots.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

And while you're at it, that very sexy looking rifle is just crying out for a mid-range tang sight.  Oh yeah!!

I have a Redfield 3200 in 16x and a Lyman 144 tang sight for it already.

The rifle is here. It's everything I hoped for. It's a model 44 and a put together piece. Barrel # does not match. The wood and finish are redone and beautiful. The lyman 144 is mounted. Now I need to get some front sight inserts, figure out a way to mount the Redfield 3200 and tool up to reload. Serial #19265.

The Redfield 3200 should go right on those target scope bases without any problem, unless you don't have rings. Steve Earle makes a nice set for the 3200 and also makes the screws in both versions (big bore (posi-lock) and small bore)

I need 1 or  more inserts for a 115 / 116 mva ? globe sight. My stevens 44 project had none when bought. There is 7/16" inside the legs on the sight clip. Inserts are out of stock every where.
