Carver?

At first glance thought this was a new made sight.  It's old.

The knurled knob next to the base locks the sight in place.

Dovetail is .544

Thanks for sharing that Joe, I'll have to make one to go with the Carver rear I'm working on...
I have an older barrel on a Stevens 44 that a Harlan did some modifying to the dovetail, maybe it wasn't so much Harlan as I thought, measures real close to that.

Amazing sight Joe! And a surprisingly large dovetail, even for a Remington! Most I've owned or checked ran around .467" dovetail. Wonder why the Carver used such a large dovetail? Maybe they had an adapter base to fit various smaller dovetails?

The simplicity of the design is ingenious.  The windage knob is held on with the tiniest pin I've ever seen. I can barely see two tiny pins holding the end plate to the base.  When this maker wasn't making sights he was making pocket watches?

As for the huge dovetail, to fit a damaged dovetail already enlarged?  To replace the two dovetails found on early Creedmoor rifles?

The sight has Carver features so I'll call it a Carver till I know better.

The camera brings out more hidden details. Can see one tiny pin. Must be two.  Undecided

That last picture appears to show a filler at the dovetail base to maybe make it larger for a larger dovetail?

I cheerfully admit being ignorant of many things.  This thread began with a question mark following "Carver".  Within a couple of posts, the question had become an assertion.  So, on what basis is this sight now so definitely identified as a Carver?

I have not asserted that it is definitely a Carver.

Bill, I thought you were busy with the J. Radmacher issue?
