That I've been fascinated with this young lady for years, and worse, that I study her photo intently even now after a decade of wedded bliss with my "gal pal." 

I'm slowly unpacking after a cross country move, and just found one of my little treasures. I believe her name was "Emma," although my memory is a a little dim. I bought this print on eBay years ago, and quite coincidentally, saw the glass plate negative listed perhaps a year later. 

I would have bought the negative as well, but sadly, it had a fractured corner. I believe there was a notation with the negative which gave her name as Emma. 

Of course we have a Maynard No. 16. I find it interesting that it is wearing the common Maynard butt as opposed to the Swiss buttplate which I usually see on No. 16s. Also unusual (I think), for a No. 16 is that the rifle appears to be wearing the plain graduated tang sight, as opposed to the Hadley vernier. 

Difficult to tell, but I also wonder if that is a nickel plated receiver?

Anyone else find anything of interest in the photo?  Do any of you happen to be photography scholars? When did glass plate negatives fade from common use?

MrTipUp:  Thanks! I have a number of the repro Maynard catalogs, and despite many readings of them, I had not noticed that statement about both buttplates being furnished. 

A few years ago, I was curious about that, and swapped buttplates on my No. 16 - a useful feature! I suspect you are quite right about the sight as well.

Not to many Gal's around anymore like that. My Aunt hunted Deer with a Winchester lever action 25-20SS for additional meat for the family to eat. It was just a normal chore for her to do and she could also light stick matches standing up on a fence pole with here 22 LR.

John, what model of Winchester lever gun was chambered for the 25-20SS that she shot? Must be real rare.

Nope aunt Virginia Joe and for the life of me I can't remember exactly which rifle she used. If memory serves me right it was a Winchester pump but that I cannot say for sure.

The Model 53 did have a half-magazine but being a "modernized" Model 1892, it was a lever-action, not a pump.  Also, the Model 1892 and hence the Model 53 could chamber the .25-20 WCF but not the too-long .25-20 SS.  Lastly, to my knowledge Winchester never made a production-line pump that chambered any centerfire cartridge (though I do believe a Model 1890 in .25-20 WCF was made as a experiment).

Are you sure about the caliber, Mr. Louis?
