Using a 325 grain bullet. Getting decent results with 4227. Anybody use 4759 or 300MP? If so where’s a good place to start?

Best and only load used for past 25 years 16.5 gr of 4759,  350 gr pointed bullet, pistol primers.  Works well for me.

I have been using M&P 300 and IMR 4759, but am working with Accurate 5744 to see if it can replace 4759 because 4759 is no longer being made. So far there are some promising results but no definitive answer. IN my testing 4759 edges out M&P 300 by a slight margin but your results may vary.
I would start at 16 gr, I think I am using 17 gr of 4759 and 16.5 of M&P300, but I dont have the data in front of me right now. Unfortunately , I am not aware of published data for either of those powders with a 300 gr bullet (my bullets are 315-320 gr), so buyer beware.

Might want try the WLR Magnum Primers or any Magnum Primer with the 300MP. They the Winchester's were what made a very substantial improvement for me. All though I showed the best target shot, I shot several that were extremely consistent and not just per-say a one time fluke.

The match load that I am using now with a 315 gr bullet is 17 gr of 4759. Before that I was using 16.7 gr of M&P300 which also produced good results, but I think the 4759 was a little more consistent. Your mileage may vary, as they say. Let us know what works for you.
Good luck!

I switched to 4227 when 4759 was discontinued. Recently inventoried powder on hand and found 5 jugs of 4759, running low on 4227 & the local shop is out of stock.

Anyhow offhand practice this week had 60 loaded with 4227 60 with 4759 identical cases primers (Large Pistol) and bullets 245,gr cast. Same charge thrown and check weighed. 17 grs.

Note used to cast 290 gr spritzers for that rifle went to Meister store bought 245 for monthly club 200 yard offhand matches. Still cast 290s for out 500 yard offhand Buffalo target. I have a 330 gr mold and my 18 twist will handle them to 500 yards however the 290s perform well & never switched. Charge for 290 or 330 same as 245 17 grs.

To performance Shot 30 of each. No difference Hits on our 200 yard Ram swinger. Every shot called, spotted and marked by off relay shooter with a push pin on spotting board.  4227 strikes A bit lower, added 1 moa to the sight for 4227 loads then same POI.  Ram target wider than high either ignore wind or wait out the gust. Groups wider than high. Will shoot remainder of the two boxes next week. Expect I will find no difference either powder.

I would like to find a powder made by somebody besides Hodgdon, tired of out of stock excuses. But 27 years competing with that CPA rifle only Powders used have been 4227 4759 & 3 F Black. No performance issues or score difference matches any of them. I should take Johns advise and try 300MP. Made in the USA .

Anyone had any luck with 4198 behind a 330 gr bullet? I've been messing around with 4227 from 16 grs up to 18 and results are not inspiring, even in a newly lined bore.15 inch twist.Breech seating at all times.

Tried 17.3 gr of 300MP today at 100 yards one good 5 shot group and a one hole five shot group. First of the week I will try it at 200 yards.

Right side up. I'm going to have to give 300MP a try.
