I vote for getting the original #9 in 38/55. Take care of it and it should not lose any value and will give many more years of service. You may need a larger diameter bullet than a modern rifle.

It might not add ten years to your life if you over load it with smokeless perhaps, just sayin.

Grin  You are correct, AND the proverbial beer truck could run you over when you get out of your car to check the mail too.  Never know when stupid might find you.   Wink
There's nothing like the feel of a Ballard when you bring it up though.

Easy choice for me! Buy the Ballard for all Greg's reasons, and even for smokeless powder. Nothing feels as sweet as a Ballard shouldered! And as mentioned they'll increase in value as they add years to the owner's life! I've added about 400 years to mine!

Are you just spouting off, or had some issues with a Ballard? I sure haven't had any issues with quite a few I own or have owned. Even at well over 100 years old they'll still compete with any CPA.

They're both good rifles. As the OP clearly has a love for Ballards, that's the way he should go. No reason a Ballard won't fulfill his needs.
Let's not have this Ford v Chevy stuff, when everyone know a Mopar is better Grin

The old loyalties run deep among car and gun brands. Everyone has their preference, and most are good regardless of maker. But unfounded remarks indicating a particular brand is poor quality, or just a wall hanger should be explained with some evidence, not a statement we should accept unchallenged. If the person has had issues, then they need to elaborate. Was it one gun, two guns, or dozens of guns? Or does he just enjoy another brand and should say so?

Ballard, no wait and no paper work.
The standard Lyman 375248 is a good choice, NOE's 379-284 seems to be a little better in my Ballard. Cast them 20:1. A duplex of 4759/FFG is good, 2400 is my go to load. Reloder#7 was good until I bought another can..sometimes bang and sometimes the bullet never left the barrel.

I have run nitro in both= single shots and Mopars.
I meant to say you should buy the one you like. Or, just buy the Ballard.

From what I've seen in the last year prices are really down. It would have to be a very nice Ballard to be priced close to a new CPA. That being said I'd go with the Ballard every time. Don't forget to ask the seller about loading items and accessories.
