Stevens Side Plate

I just finished working over a Stevens large frame side plate that had the tangs buggered up and poorly welded. It came out pretty nice. The fun part is that along with a very nice 22 barrel, I have a William V Lowe barrel to go with it. It is set up far a false muzzle (Unfortunately not included) and a cartridge using a 32-20 blown out to 35 caliber. The barrel slugs out for a bullet at .346, which is obviously not a standard one. The .346 dimension is the same as the neck diameter, so no fixed ammo loads. I made a bullet starter for it, and have used paper patched .338 bullets, but would like something lighter than the 200 grain that I have. Anyone know of either a mold in the .346 range or a lighter 33 bullet mold that could be paper patched?

Bruce ,
That came out nice. I will look and
see what I have in molds that might work.

Check the Accurate Moulds catalog. They have .34 caliber moulds, and you can either pick one of their designs and specify the diameter at no extra cost, or spend some more and design your own cavity.

Very nice job Bruce! Tell me more, is this a cousin to the 44, the favorite? I'm ignorant to a lot of the Stevens... I'm guessing closer to the 44 because of the case size?

Greg,
The side plate came in two sizes. They were only made for about 2 years and found to be too expensive to produce due the machining needed. They were changed and became the Favorite and the 44. DeHaas has a good write up on them in his single shot action book. I've been lucky to acquire one in each size.
