Do you have any more left hand levers for the Hepburn, have a student that is wanting to build another rifle and the Hepburn is appealing to him and we discussed making a lever for the left side...?

No don’t have a left hand Hepburn lever . But I do have a left hand Bown lever for rolling block that could work with a little welding. I will post a picture.

Those are some nicely engraved rifles that Ken did. His work is highly appreciated by many. I have a Ballard that I bought some years ago that was engraved with a dragon scene. I purchased the action already engraved and then built a rifle around it.

Ken was not only a good engraver but a good friend and was a big help to many of his fellow engravers. J.J.Roberts

Is Ken still around? He just kind of disappeared from this website after his wife passed away. I've always wondered if he is still with us. We used to converse quite a bit during some of my rifle builds. He was a big help.

He passed maybe six years ago in Robersonville, NC. As I understand it he was barely able to feed or take care of himself. After his death and the police finding his body his shop was looted it seems. A woodworking friend of mine in the same town was building him a custom bench that he could use handicapped. From what he told me all his tools, parts and some guns vanished including one of his pieces. This is second hand info but my source is sound.

Rick

Correction six years ago I met him in NC not sure when he passed. Sorry.

According to The Engraver's Cafe, Mr. Hurst died in November 2018 from cancer.  However, his very able apprentice, Lisa Tiomlin, is still going string and her website is well worth a visit.

Lisa Tomlin was pretty good when she met Ken, and even better after training with him!

I'm sorry to hear that about Ken. Yes Lisa's engraving is very good. I'd compare her bulino to Winston Churchill.

I had heard somewhere else a few months that he had passed. Another great one we’ll miss. I just looked at Lisa Tomlin’s website. Wow is she talented! But one had better be serious about an heirloom gun, she commands top prices and as well she should!
