25/35 venison

I finally connected with a nice 185# six point at 110 yards walking. Aimed for the heart and missed by a couple inches. This is my Stevens 44 1/2 topped with a vintage Weaver K3 post and crosshair. I rechambered it to my own version of of an improved 25/35 with a longer neck. I was using a 100gr Remington RNSP at 2900fps. He went 75 yards. Pressure is off now for my winter venison! The wolves had moved into the area a day prior and had the deer super skittish. Tracks in the new snow showed a large lone wolf cross my track going in in the morning. Life is good.

Nice! I used to hunt the UP and it was always a special event. Never knew what the weather would be. One time they closed "the bridge" behind me as the weather was so wicked. Getting a deer there never came easy......so well done!

Ballards may be weaker,

Great job.  I have a 44 1/2 rebarreled to a standard 25/35 and have taken several deer and antelope with it.  After trying several different bullets my go to now is the 100 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip.  Tom

SBoomer,
Beautiful rifle and a very nice buck.  Fried chops, gravy from the drippins’ and mile high biscuits for soppin’.  A nice cold glass of Pilsner and a salad or slaw...  Sorry, my wife has me on a diet.
