i played with .30 cal base band bullets a few years ago with mixed(mostly poor) results.i just got this one in the mail mot knowing it was this type.all driving bands are .375 and the base band is .381 and weight is 280g in a mix of 12 bhn alloy.its sorta odd in that the front bands are kinda groove diameter unlike others I played with that those bands were bore diameter. any ideas for getting type to shoot? it will be used in my badger barrel c sharps 38-55 hi wall.

The Badger is a fine barrel and it will shoot, that said...the bottom of your bullets look really rough and inconsistent. Its the base that steers the bullet, you need to have a smooth base with a clean sprue cut off, then work on every thing else for load development.

Yeah I know the bottom base is were kind of rough I just cast a few after degreasing the mole just to get some Dimensions the sprue  plate needed some adjustment.
I usually cut the sprue  with a leather glove so it's perfectly flat.
I knew somebody would comment about that when I posted the pictures I was right.!

Appears your bullet might be a bit on the hard side and I would try using a sofler alloy. Especially if trying to breech seat and if your initial results are not very impressive.

I'll try softer for sure  but I typically had good luck with bullets in the 16 -1 /10 bhn range.

Another question who makes a decent mechanical.breech seater for a high wall. The only ones I have are ones I've made up myself with a case and a handle.

Russ Weber makes an excellent adustable Breech Seater and his contact info was just recently shared. I too have had good success with BHN 11 / 16-1 if having the correct bullet fit and typically what I personally use. Having done quite abit of alloy testing over the years I have never had consistent results with any alloys containing Antimony.

I've had very good luck with bullets containing antimony but I was kind of "stuck"with 10,000 lb of linotype when my dad retired as a printer so that's what I had. The problem was his many times the bullets came out oversized for my Chambers. But some of my most accurate shooting with plain base bullets were with linotype. I haven't done a lot of work with breech seating though and I imagine antimony is probably something you wouldn't want in a bullet whem trying to force into the rifling manually.

Thanks for the info I'll give Russ Weber a jingle and have him make me a breech seater or two.
