Unusual Schuetzen Club Photo

Here is something we don't see every day, eBay item # 264497745744, because of its size and because the club members are Czechs rather than Germans.  The seller thinks it's an American club for several reasons, none of which is that the rifles shown are both later high-wall schuetzen models.  Comments please.

Actually, I think they're both Helms.

I'd agree with the seller that it's likely an American image, although the people in it may be Czech or German. The guns being Winchester Helm models would be very odd to be found overseas.
Neat image, and the size is great too. A serious Winchester 1885 collector would probably be happy to own it.

The writing on the banner is Czech, not German, suggesting to me that if any club members considered themselves Bohemians, they were very nationalistic ones.  And where's Biggi when we need her?

I say early Helm Pattern Winchesters.

Based on, they are Helms. Early, serpentine double set lever style, barrel sights and the date of the photo, 1905.

Round pistol grip cap on the one Bob shows is usually a late feature. I'm stickin to early rather than late. Late Helms but early Winchester Schuetzens. There.

The sellers write up was excellent I thought. Compared to so many bad ones seen.

This is one of the detail photos from the ebay site. I tried several filters using PhotoShop to enhance the detail and I'm fairly certain that flag on the right edge of the medal on the right, is an American flag. That's the viewer's right not the man in the photo.
Also, those shoulder boards worn by some of the shooters appear to be US Army style from that era. Perhaps they were club officers?

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

By the way, since it's a silver gelatin print, the original will potentially have a level of clarity that only the best daguerreotypes better.  That along with its size and its subject are what make it so special.

Also, while I applaud Randy's computer skills, as the seller points out, only English speakers spell the a camera's output as "photo".

The Czech writing just means the club was likely a group of Czech immigrant shooters. I still think the seller is correct that it's an early 1900's American Schuetzen Club.

I'll go a little further. I'd speculate that it is a early 20th century American club. If I were to guess i'd say probably Chicago or NYC.

The seller's description pretty much nailed it at New York City. He said the photographer, Klapper, did a lot of work with the Czech and German residents.
