I don't mean to hijack your thread but here is an interesting historical tidbit. In the 1894 Wimbledon Match Edgar Leopold shot what was referred to as a 25-40 Maynard cartridge. He finished dead last of all the competitors. The cartridge was the prototype for the 25-36 Marlin which was introduced in 1895. He was shooting a Maynard and that's why it was called a Maynard cartridge. It seems there is very little that is new in the shooting world.

... and when Mr Leopold could have pulled a 44-100 Creedmoor out of stock at Maynard, he must have felt he had something to prove.  Guess he really showed them!!  Wink

It's only half the distance but I was consistently hitting an 18" rock at 570 yds. with my 32-20 WCF and a 160 grain bullet. My spotter could see the dust from the hits and got me dialed in. I was using a Kelly Schuetzen sight and don't think I could get enough elevation for 1000 yds. I'm pretty sure that with a longer staff I could score hits on a calm day. Why try it? Why not, it's fun!
