oughtsix, grandkids is what makes putting up with your own teenages worthwhile. Good luck on getting it going.
Speaking of Grandsons, I have one serving in Africa in the Navy now. Work, school, remodeling his house and Navy doesn't leave much time for shooting these days. When he was about 10, I had a Trapdoor match at 200 and 600 yards. A bit much for him at that age, but he wanted to take a whack at the buffalo head king target with his mom's Chipmunk. 200 yards offhand I told him to hold a couple feet high. He hit about 12 inches from the center!
with a .22 zeroed for 50 yards shooting offhand
When he was about 12, shooting my BSA .22, he won 2nd in a 20 shot BR match. A nationally competitive inside the ring shooter was 3rd !
That was his first TRR medal.
When he was about 14ish, he was 2nd on the 200 yard King target shooting my Stevens-Pope Ballard .33-47. I won it, so he got it
When he has time, he would make a good schuetzen shooter
