The .32 Miller Short was designed to be only fired through breech seating.

It is not possible to fire it as a fixed case because the mouth opening is too wide to provide any case tension when inserting a bullet.

Yes u are right, but I have shot in several of hand matches where we can't shoot bc.. time will not permit..  I had a set of dies to shoot fixed with fire formed cases and get good next tension and crimp. I was just curious about powder other than #9..  thankx for your input...

I ask because I pick one up at a action and I need all the help I can git, Brass ?? I have read 357 mag, 357 Max, load's, bullet weight? unknown barrel twist , it is a 1885 Winchester Single Shot that I haven't received At this time . Thanks, Bonner

I had a set of dies made, and in the am I'll get the make for u,  I use only 357 mag brass to form, but have to anneal in 3 steps as forming to keep from scraping cases.  all brands work but I try to keep on mfg so i can get dif loads.. use hard cast 170 gr pb, and #p powder, but want to test other powder..  shot it several times off hand and did ok, but do better with 32-40,  more in the am....

You will need the Ch/4D die set.  The trick is the brass needs to be run all the way into the rim. To do this you use a vice or arbor press and knock it out with a punch. Expand the neck and seat the bullet.
There are many chamber dimensions for this round, I would use Star Line 357 Max brass to start but you may need 222R if you have sticking. The basic load for breach seating is 10-10.5 of AA9, reduce and watch your velocity. AA4100 & Enforcer are other popular powders.
The best thing about the 32 Miller Short is it is easy to rechamber because it is so small. Good luck.

If you want to shoot fixed you may want to rechamber to a .32 BASS it was the .32 dell with a neck that was designed to be a .32 MS / Dell case to shoot fixed ammunition.

I have acquired a .32 MS short (Miller/DH Action)....I have several hundred formed cases. The case mouths even on fired cases will not accept my .322/.323 bullets without expanding??? Are there standard dim's for this round?

It would seem to me that if the cartridge was designed to only be used breech seated that it would be a benefit to have the chamber neck diameter no larger than the bullet diameter to ensure a centered bullet when seated. Having a chamber that permits a bullet to be seated in the case makes no sense and having a chamber that is so large that a fired case opening is much larger than than the bullet makes even less sense.
