I have had the opportunity to purchase a quantity of lead shot that was recovered from our clubs shotgun range, I was considering using it to cast bullets for my 40/65.
My question is this, would this shot be pure lead, or some type of mixture ?.  I will only purchase it if it's 100% lead.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Shot is anything but pure lead.  High in antimony, much too hard for us.

    Shot not only has antimony, but arsenic.   This renders its hardness very sensitive to thermal history, so not ideal for bullets, unless you intend to do heat treating to specific hardness.  As an experiment, I recently added a small amount of lead shot to a 3% tin alloy, and heat-treated it to BHN 32!!

That's incredible. A small amount did that?
I was going to tell Mick that some rifles like harder bullets for fixed loads. My .32-40 sure does. And, my 1895 prefers them too. 
Wheel weight alloy of old is the metal I've used. (still have some). But, I never heat treated or anythng besides just casting hot, like I always have.
