Fitz I think you will find it to be amazingly accurate off the bench as did I with my 405 / 40-70SS if you can take the punishment of which I simply could no longer after a full year of benchrest competition but it sure did look good in doing so and it shot even better. I even cleaned house at our Turkey shoot with it two turkeys and six chickens and in very short order. Two hundred yard bench was a 1 inch lifesaver hanging on fishing line and at one hundred yards a 3/8 lifesaver also hanging on the same.

Vall, I have a Military Borchardt with a 40-90 Ballard caliber Barrel that is about 1 1/2 " in diameter. It is faintly stamped
A O Zishang ahead of the receiver. Has not been finished as to extractor cut but has a bright shiny beautiful bore. I have plans to finish it up to some level and shoot it as a Bench gun. What do you think of that? FITZ. OLD TUCK Smiley

That's got to be a pretty rare chambering for a Borchardt Fitz! I use 9.3x74R cases expanded to .40 caliber to make mine, and I'm shooting a 330 gr. cast grease groove bullet from an RCBS CSA mold. They are extremely accurate in my Ballard Pacific, and give consistent hits on long range dingers with the cartridge and the 330 gr. bullet.
I think you'll love the Borchardt in .40-90 and if the bore is good, it should be a swell benchrest gun. Do you know the groove diameter, and twist rate?
Mine like .411" bullets, and I believe the groove diameter is 1:21"? Have to go check my data sheet to be sure, but pretty sure on that twist.

Vall, it is a new unfinished barrel from Zishang, has been threaded and fit to a Borchardt. The bore is to all appearances brand new. Most likely never fired. The Chamber is reamed to what appears finish size. The chamber has been cast to determine that it is a 40-90 Ballard I have not checked the bore and twist. Will do so some where on down the line. The Zishang stamp is very light back near the receiver. This barrel was gifted to me by a close friend who was collecting this kind of stuff when I was 15 years old and new nearly nothing about Single Shot Rifles. Hope to do something with it someday Regards, FITZ. OLD TUCK. Smiley
