297/230 long Francotte Martini loads

I have one of these beautiful little rifles, and have made 100 cases (from 22 hornet brass) I now want to shoot the thing, have pulled projectiles from old .22lr ammo and have checked original loads, which appear to be 3.0g FFFg compressed down into the "bowl" of the case with a cardboard wad filling the neck of the case by .24" with the projectile going .16 into the neck of the case, the projectiles I have pulled from original ammo weigh in at  37.5grains heeled. Am proposing to use ex/22lr pulled projectiles weighing 40.0 grains and heeled, but would like suggestions as to a nitro equivilant load to the original 3.0g black powder load. Thanks for any suggestions,

40% of the black weight using using 4198 (H or IMR) is the most common, and used,  "standard" equivalent.

That would be about 2.2 grains of 4198. The idea of using pulled 22's is a good one but I don't think there is enough bullet weight or resistance in this cartridge to get a good burn with this powder. I think something quicker like Unique or even Trail Boss might work better in this little case.  ratseye

I shot this calibre for some years, along with 297-25.
In the larger calibre, Unique gave good results, but, in 297-23 it was useless. I used .22 rimfire bullets obtained direct from Eley and finally settled on a load of around 3 grn of 2400. Not quite as good as my Greener .22 rimfire, but not much worse either.

Trail Boss sounds like a plan.

Try 1 1/4-1 1/2 grains of Bullseye to start.

As far as Bullseye is concerned I have 2  x .297/230's 1 is a Francotte training rifle with an as new bore this will shoot with Bullseye 1.2grs  and 40 gr bullet. The BSA Mod 6 will not. 2400 shoots well in that. Twist Rate variation?  TJ.

Try 1.4 - 1.5 grains of Trail Boss. Some of my rifles perform well with it and others don't. Unique seems to work in a majority of of the small cases. At least for me. ratseye

Thank you all for your info, will give Trail Boss a go, as I use it for most of my pistol target loads (down to 1.4g for my Walther .32 S & W long with 82g button nose wad cutter projectile ) with very good results. with the exception of the Walther all other pistol loads are slightly compressed and this seems to suit it. Will advise results, thanks again, David A.
