Ballards may be weaker,

Forgot about the steel forearm caps! They too were numbered. Makers like Remington, and Marlin were wonderful about serialization of parts. They seem to want to serial number any part large enough for their stamps to fit!

I doubt anyone will ever stamp more than old Colts got. Writing on some parts if not stamped. Nowadays, many firearms have a single serial, with no other assembly or serialization of components. Modern.

Both Remington and Marlin stamped serial numbers in the following places.
Receiver, lower tang, forearm, buttstock, buttplate, and barrel. Remington also did the forearm cap if it had one. Marlin never used a forearm cap on their Ballard rifles, but previous makers of Ballard did.
