For some reason I always thought the 417 and 4i7 1/2 had the same actions and the barrel and stock and sights were the only difference. Both have the speed lock actions. I have examples of both and they work the same as I recall. I always thought that the 418's were so much better guns than the Favorite that they were based on.

How long since you've compared them side by side?   

Actually, I believe DeHaas said that the very first 417s did NOT have that super-heavy mainspring, & but DID have a half-cock notch--so maybe you're lucky enough to have one of those.  He describes these in More SS Rifles.

Didn't DeHaas also say that he never owned a 417 1/2 ?
