	Know nothing about "bazooka," but the photo was not earlier than 1925, when the first aluminum scope mounts were introduced by Fecker.

	I vaguely recall reading somewhere that they used rifles that balanced on top the shoulder or experimented with them. I'm sure it isn't an anti-tank device.

	Is that the barrel slightly below the tube, forward of what looks like a clamp/strap? Hmm... maybe the big tube is an experimental reflecting telescope design for non-traditional unlimited class?

	I have heard the shooter's name, but don't remember it. The idea was to increase the moment of intertia so the rifle would swing slower. CHRIS RGChristensen

	That was written up somewhere; can’t remember if it was the ASSRA Newsletter or Precision Shooting. That picture was on the cover. I do remember that the guy didn’t win the match (though he got full marks for “thinking outside the box”) and a hasty convention of the Rules Committee was called after the match. “Resolved: That in future matches any rear projection on the rifle that exceeded the length of the buttstock and buttplate would disqualify the rifle from competition” was the change it made to the Rulebook.

	The guy shooting it was a Stieff from the stuffed bear Stieff family. It’s a picture from Davenport match. He is in several of our match pictures with what appears different variations. Did not appear to catch on.

	Page 300 Of John Dutcher's Ballard book, Richard Stieff, August 1931. Steven's action. The back inside cover of the book has a group shot with Stieff in it. Could not get a good scan to post.

	Be interesting to know how he transported the rifle during that time period and if it might have been a take down system of some sort. There was an article in a past ASSRA Journal that talked about it a bit.

	The shooter was Steif like the stuffed bears. I heard he was part of that family. There was an article called shooting dodges that featured that in an old ASSRA News. the rifle under the pipe was a Stevens. 40 Rod

	I can only imagine the reaction of fellow shooters when he first showed up with that monstrosity at a match! Probably not much different than our reaction at seeing it the first time too! Obviously if it had worked, and he won regularly with it, it would have changed the way people built their schuetzen rifles, and we'd have seen it a lot more.

	I agree, but some would say, then don't shoot it outside. Probably best to not shoot it at all, at least with innocents nearby.
