Do you always have to be so argumentative?

This is argumentative?

"The conclusion I was referring to is that, because Ned was known to have owned a Schoyen-barreled Ballard in this caliber, this gun HAS to be the same one.  Very possibly, it is, but is it asking too much for some further evidence that it is?"

If you consider such a modest request "argumentative," I have a few guns once owned by very famous people that I'll give you a chance to buy before I offer them to the public...provided you don't insult me by asking for further evidence of what I allege to be true.

Do you not get that he's not offering it up for sale?

And have you not noticed that he rarely posts, and I believe because of his age he rarely returns to a thread he started? Cut the guy some slack, unless you want to buy it, and he wants to sell it.

Of course. Buying & selling is irrelevant; what's relevant is its purported history, a part, presumably, of the history of Ned Roberts.

How much older than 75 do you have to be before responding to your own post becomes too burdensome?  My time may be very near at hand.

All right, Vall and Redsetter, go to your respective corners.

The OP has graciously informed me that the 2007-noted accessories, the hand-written notes and shop-made tools, are indeed still with the rifle.  So, as far as I'm concerned, the provenance is unbroken from 2007 until now and the substantiation of Roberts-ownership is likely as good as it can be without a goodly amount of time and money being spent.

So let's thank the man, again, for sharing and move on.

Agreed...but SO very much simpler to have said that in the first place!

I was always happy with him sharing the gun Bill. But saw no reason to doubt his claim, nor any reason to request proof. Simply wasn't necessary to me.

I think the OP was asked for provenance.
Does it get any better than this??
Thanks,     Chuck

No, Chuckster, it doesn't, unless you want to try conjuring Ned Robert's ghost.  Seriously, everyone should now be happy, and pleased that such a storied set is still complete and well cared for.  Thank you again, Life#75, for sharing.
