I just bought a .44-40 rolling block off of gun broker and really know nothing about them. It looks like a small carbine in the pictures. Somebody had messed the stock up and it also had some cracks in stock. Everything else looked ok to mine uninformed eyes.can anybody tell me more about the 44-40 rolling blocks,as I’m just getting started. I have two trapdoorsand one 1885 in .45-70. Thanks

It should be a lot more pleasant to shoot than the 45-70s!  Grin

CAn you post pictures?  Or have a link to the GB listing?

Ballards may be weaker,

I'd be interested in seeing it too!  Wonder if it's a #1, 1 1/2, or 2?

If it is all original in may be a "Baby Carbine."  They were made only in 44-40 and very often nickle plated.  If so, best to be enjoyed as is and not messed with.

I know it’s not nickel plated. It has a cracked stock that somebody sanded and put some shiney stuff on it. When I get I will know more. I have been wanting a rolling block for a while,I found on but it’s a .43 Spanish. Ammo is too high for that one.
