Schuetzen ID help.....

Hello!

Im an antique firearms guy and just bought this "Zimmer" Scheutzen. Never heard of the hobby, and as far as I know, I've never seen a Scheutzen rifle before.

Anyway, I was attracted by the craftsmanship of the piece, the unique wooden trigger guard, and the fact that the maker's name and place of manufacture were stamped on the barrel.

While there's a good deal of general historical info on the net, I can't find anything specific to G.PENKER IN WEILHEIM (other than Weilheim is in southern Bavaria).

Anybody have any info on this rifle? My guess is that the sport was quite popular and there were alotta local builders.

I paid $500.

And does anybody have a period sight/Iris for sale?

Thanks!!!!

There is a very informative article about "Zimmerstutzens" on the Pyramid Air website; and I'm sure you can easily Google it to find it.

If I recall, there's a chart included in that article which converts older barrel diameters (as I used to have one) to the newer numbering system as used by RWS.

There is a seller of RWS 4mm Short and Long "Flobert" rimfire ammo in TX, International Shooters Service, and (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links).  Last time I called, it was over $35 shipped for 100 rounds, loaded with a #7 ball... (Ouch!)

One of the guys who co-wrote "the books" on German Schuetzen Rifles used to make replacement tang sights, I believe.  You may want to post some info on what you need over on the "German Gun Collectors" website. You may get some hits there.

Good luck.
