Ron Smith and I decided my Stevens Pope ends at about 17" and I shoot a 215 gr Pope bullet.

My Bresien was a 15 LH Twist and I used a 234gr. MOS Spitzer in 16-1 Bob and it was the most consistently accurate rifle that I have ever owned. Hopefully Jerry Hartwig will chime in I don't remember what his is but it shoots just as well.

If you are use to a right hand twist shy away from wanting a left hand twist all though it has it's benefits it is also an entirely new learning process.

My 33-47 is a 14 twist. Using a 231 gr. Mos spitzer it was the rifle I shot my first 250 with. A very consistent shooting rifle, it kept me near the top if I did my part.

Thanks Jerry and this was also Terry Harper's choice who went out on Friday to practice with us, shot a 250 and then shot another 250 in his first match the next day with his new to him CPA Model 52 or Pope I don't really recall which. But I do recall it being a Douglas barrel and shooting the FN bullet Barry Darr made for him and hopefully he will now chime in.

The left hand twist threw me off in the wind.  My slug gun gives me fit's in the wind.  Left to right wind, bullet goes high right. Normal but still have to remember............

It can be a bit confusing for sure.  The wind will give you a reminder when you forget  Huh   Cheesy

Joe it's all ass backwards with a left hand twist as you pointed out in the wind and a bit challenging to get used to at least it was for me.

I shot my 14.5 twist from 2008 until late last year, on a Borchardt. I switched to 30 cal this year, not because of my 33 but, because I got a RKS barrel and want to try it on my Hoch.

The 33 barrel was from a gun show and I have no idea who made it but, it's my most accurate barrel, to date.

I used 5 bullets. 1.19 lg bullet (unknown), 1.2 lg PJ, 1.135 lg NOE, 1.30 NOE and Brooks.

I designed the 1.135 lg NOE and placed 2nd overall in a 4x5 shot group CBA match. I won the same type CBA match with the 1.20 PJ and shot a single 5 shot, 200 yd group, in my local match of .467, with the unknown 1.19 bullet, as well as back to back 249's, in Spokane.

I would also suggest the 14 twist barrel, you'll be able to shoot spitzers, as long as 1.35 in it.

These are the molds that I shot.

Thanks for the replies all. I was surprised that the bullet weights mentioned were not heavier? Which case are you all using?

Bob I was using a blown out 32-40 Case in my 33-47
I also once owned a 33RKS Schuetzen, Smith GT Barrel, Case 357Max. straight tapered to 33. Never could get it to shoot consistently and sold it and the reamer to someone here on the site. Not sure if he ever got it shooting good never heard back from him. Pressure was my issue with it I needed a bit more velocity and I just could not quite get it there.

Thanks John, I was looking at both, surprised you had pressure issues with the RKS. with those weight bullets would expect similar loads and velocities to the 32 RKS

Last winter I bought a 1-10 twist Douglas barrel blank because it was cheep. chambered it for a 33RKS . Had a mold made. Frank was kind enough to draw up to my specs. 296 grain bullet . Rifle shoots under 1/2" groups at 100yds but the recoil is tough to deal with. Still shooting my 32RKS most of the time. much less recoil with 233 grain bullet.

Dale's is your 33RKS real consistent day in and day out. The barrel I had would shoot damn near 3/4 inch groups at 200yds. one day and the next not even close. It was my third based on the Max. case a 28, 32 and a 33 and I am not sure why others have had good success and myself not. The only thing I have been able to come up within my own head is my elevation, temp. and density altitude. It was never from a lack of trying by far while working with all three and they all had pressure issues?

John
I have not fired the 33 as much as I should but I have not seen any problems. As for the 32RKS It is very consistent and I do not have any pressure problems , Most of the time I fire with one case the one I used at our match today has been fired over 300 times in the last two matches  with out any sizing and will use it again tomorrow . I am using a 233 grain bullet at about 1475fps no pressure problems here.
