Joe,

You should try my lube formula.  I modified some recipes from this site.  It stays sticky and I have never had a problem with it falling out.  Not sure how it would stand up to below zero temps, but I would not be shooting at that temp anyway.

By volume:

3 parts beeswax
1 part anhydrous lanolin
1 part Camp Dry (Kiwi) Mink Oil
1.5 parts Valve and Assembly lube

Pan Lubes very easily.

rosin in lube,  OMG never use any rosin in anything associated with a rifle.  You'll be sorry.

NEVER used it never will.   It will glob and move and give very inconsistent accuracy.

Rosin -- several recipes from the ODG's used rosin -- I've never tried it, used rosin only on the barrel vise and fiddle strings.

Joe,

There is minimal lube on the body.  Nice sticky stuff tucked neatly away in the grooves.

If memory serves me right the various lube formula's noted in Charle Dell's book included Rosin.

Maybe getting a thin film of lube on the entire bullet was why Vic Rabel was rolling his bullets on what looked like a case lube pad when he shot a 248 on him his final target n the NW regional at Tommy's.

I was watching as well.  The interesting thing was how fast he pulled away from the stock to look at his spotting scope.  It was as if the recoil made his head jump up a foot. He was VERY methodical in his  routine. I guess all those notes he was taking all week paid off.   We definitely got him hooked on single shots!
